Liminality. A threshold. That "neither here nor there" quality of being. For many, it’s destabilizing; for me, it is my natural state of being. Encounters. Conversations. Life in three languages. These are my happy places. Even with people we know well, a true encounter makes us step outside of ourselves into a space we do not yet understand. Finding the strength to leap into that uncertainty—to inhabit the threshold where everything is still possible—is the magic of conversation. That is why it is in enounters with others and with life itself that I feel complete.

When we aren't who we were, and we aren't yet who we are going to be, we need new horizons. Why should I accept the narrow confines of my own story if I am to truly savor the mystery and staggering beauty of this existence? I don't just seek knowledge; I want to be inspired,  shocked, corrected, changed by the presence of others, all the others I can possibly encounter.​ I want to stand before life's true teachers—those extraordinary souls who inspire us to go beyond what we think we’re capable of. These are the essential people; the ones we desperately need and should actively pursue in our lives.

 

I have listened closely to these teachers, and now I am sending their echoes to you. Perhaps, like me, you will find the inspiration that calls you to cross your own horizon.
